A regular clean is a weekly or fortnightly visit that keeps a lived-in home under control, rather than a top-to-bottom reset. This guide explains what a regular clean includes room by room, why each task is there and what normally sits outside a standard visit, so you can judge whether our regular domestic cleaning covers what your home needs.
Your cleaner works through these tasks in the time you book, so a larger home or a longer gap between visits may mean agreeing priorities first.
Living rooms and bedrooms
These rooms collect dust and clutter more than dirt, so the visit is about surfaces and floors:
- dusting, polishing and wiping surfaces
- vacuuming carpets and rugs
- mopping wooden and tiled floors
- cleaning mirrors, skirting boards and doors
- emptying bins and tidying general areas
Clothes or towels left on the floor are picked up and put neatly out of the way, so the floors can be done properly. Sorting drawers or wardrobes is not part of a regular visit.
The kitchen
The kitchen is where grease and crumbs build up between visits, so most of the time goes on the surfaces you use every day:
- cleaning worktops and splashbacks
- wiping cupboard fronts and the outside of appliances
- cleaning the sink and the hob
- disinfecting handles and other surfaces people touch often
- emptying bins and mopping the floor
The inside of the oven, fridge and freezer is not part of the routine. Those jobs take longer and need the appliance emptied, so they are booked as extras (see below).
Bathrooms and toilets
Limescale and soap residue are the main enemies here, and they are far easier to keep on top of weekly than to remove after a month:
- scrubbing the shower, bath and tiles
- cleaning the toilet, sink and mirrors
- polishing chrome taps and fittings
- wiping handles and taps
- mopping the floor
If a shower screen or grout has been left for a long time, a regular visit will improve it gradually, but heavy build-up is a job for a deep clean first.
What is usually an extra
Some tasks are worth doing now and then rather than every visit. On the Pro Cleaning Woking service list these are extras, which you can add to a visit or rotate so that each one gets done every few weeks:
- inside the oven, fridge or freezer
- interior windows and blinds
- changing beds or doing laundry
- spot cleaning marks on walls
For a fuller explanation of each extra and when it makes sense, read our guide to the extras you can add to a domestic clean. Window cleaning and oven cleaning are also booked as services of their own.
Regular clean or deep clean?
A regular clean maintains a home that is already in reasonable order. A deep clean goes further: behind and under things, inside cupboards once they are emptied, descaling and the places a weekly visit skips. If the home has fallen behind, a deep clean is the better place to start. If you are unsure what a deep clean adds, our deep cleaning checklist lists it task by task.
How often, and what it costs
Weekly visits suit families and busy households. Fortnightly is a balance between cost and how clean the home stays. Monthly works for smaller homes, or if you do some of the cleaning yourself. Our post on how often to book a cleaner goes into this in more detail.
Regular cleaning is charged by the hour, with a minimum call-out per visit. If you are comparing companies, ask whether products and equipment are included in the rate or charged separately, so you compare quotes on the same basis. The current rates for weekly, fortnightly and catch-up cleaning are on our cleaning prices page.
